Certified Food Handler

This course is designed for anyone getting certified to be a Food Handler in the state of Texas or for anyone renewing their Texas Food Handler License. As per the Texas Food Establishment Rules §229.163, the person in charge shall demonstrate food safety knowledge by being a certified food protection manager who has shown proficiency of required information through passing a test that is part of an accredited program.
In administering the certificate program, National Registry of Food Safety Professionals will not discriminate or deny opportunity to anyone on the grounds of age, race, religion, gender, sexual preference or orientation, national origin, veteran status or disability.



In Texas, there are at least two organizations that offer courses specifically designed for cottage food: Texas Food Safety Training and food handlers card Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Between the two of them, over 1,400 individuals have purchased and completed courses over the past year.

Food Handler Cards or certificates issued by an accredited program are recognized throughout the state of Texas by regulatory authorities as the valid proof of successful completion of an accredited food handler education or training program under Texas Health and Safety Code.
Senate Bill (SB) 1089 of the 85th legislature (2017) amends Health and Safety Code Chapter 438 to establish that a food service worker trained in a food handler training course accredited by the American National Standards Institute or Department of State Health Services is considered to have met a local health jurisdiction's training, testing, and permitting requirements and has reciprocity throughout the State of Texas.
